Where it all starts
IN THE HEART OF KERAMEIKOS
Overlooking a quiet pedestrian street, the Ceramian provides a visiting experience of seclusion and tranquility, while boasting a central location in Athens historical center, with most important landmarks within walking distance.
Suites & Living
Filled with natural sunlight, its 11 suites and apartments offer unobstructed Acropolis views. Each accommodation is designed in the Ceramian signature style, made with natural materials in an earthy palette. High-end design furniture are matched with handmade objects, ceramic art creations, books and smells that infuse Greece.
The Ceramian is located in the heart of Kerameikos, an area overflowing with history. Kerameikos took its name from the word kéramos (“pottery clay”, from which the English word “ceramic” is derived), because of the many ceramists who lived and worked there in ancient times. The “Inner Kerameikos” was the former “ceramists’ quarter” within the city and “Outer Kerameikos” includes the cemetery and also the Dēmósion Sēma (δημόσιον σήμα, public graveyard) just outside the city walls. Ruins of the Dēmósion Sēma, where Pericles delivered his funeral oration in 431 BC, were found and now exhibited, literally, next door from the Ceramian.
But Kerameikos of nowadays has much more to offer. Some of Athens most exquisite restaurants are located steps away. Bars, caffes, museums, art galleries, local markets set the scene of a vibrant, lively, edgy and interesting place to live.
Combining the allure of an unspoiled, old-fashioned, original neighborhood with its central location, the Ceramian makes the perfect starting point to discover and experience Athens.
In this sacred area between the Parthenon and Dēmósion Sēma, our guests are bound to submerge themselves in the lavish ancient Greek history.
Whether you are looking for a private tour to the Acropolis, for a unique sailing trip, for a yoga session during sunset, working out in your room, or you just want to enjoy a great night out with the best food, drinks, and music, our concierge will be more than happy to assist you.
The Ceramian Concept
The founders of the Ceramian had a vision of transforming the once wrecked building of Salaminos Street into a sanctuary of laid back luxury and tranquility. Constantina, the manager of Ceramian, coming from a family of ceramists herself, drew inspiration from her grandfather’s pottery lab, raw and earthy materials and Greek history which she then embodied in the concept and design of the building.
Every little detail in the Ceramian has been carefully chosen and has a story to tell. From the custom-made facade, which depicts the historic line that links the ancient ceramists with today’s artists, to the handmade ceramic pendant lights and decoration items, the Ceramian is an ode to the transcendental artistic creation.
